What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique, created by Australian reciter FM Alexander, is a method of Somatic Education designed to help people learn about their bodies. The purpose of learning the Alexander Technique is:

  • To heighten awareness of ourselves within the space around us
  • To discover for ourselves how our postural and movement habits interfere with our natural upright poise and how these habits create tension and long-term chronic pain in our own bodies
  • To learn how to replace these old habits with new ones using a constructive approach to movement and being.

The Alexander Technique is NOT a form of therapy or alternative healing. Alexander Technique sessions are taught by certified teachers and can be learned in 1 on 1 private lessons as well as in group classes, with the goal of giving students a universal tool that can be applied in all aspects of everyday life.
